SERVING OLDER ADULTS

Mission

Our Mission is to serve Milwaukee County's older adult community, helping to reduce separation from the public, leading to a higher quality of life.

VISION

We envision a community where every older adult (60 and up) will be connected to appropriate resources to increase opportunities and support them throughout aging.

oUR HISTORY

Established in 1972 by Founder Liller Bates, Bethesda is known in the Milwaukee community as one of the first black-owned senior centers.  While working closely with the community Mother Bates(affectionately known as) saw the increased needs of many minority older adults. She had the vision to empower and enhance the quality of life of individuals in the community as they aged. Many older adults were isolated at home without interaction and lacked organized recreational activities and necessary resources. This concern prompted her to open a senior center that addressed the needs. She often used her finances and vehicle to support the program and services. Her love and compassion for this vision allowed it to grow and prosper into a great legacy for the Milwaukee Community. Bethesda has garnered over fifty years of stock in its community.
